Give and Get
Here is a wacky little illustration that I thought I might post-ify.
I was sitting there at family camp, drinking my water, sitting next to my good friend, Tiney, when I realized that she might want some water. I took the pitcher and filled up a cup, giving it to her. This emptied the pitcher.
Tiney looked at the pitcher, realized that it was empty and took it back to the kitchen, filling it up with fresh, cold water. A lot more than I had originally given her!
This got me thinking about The exchange of life between us and God. When I gave a glass of water, all that I had, to Tiney it reminded me of when we as people give our whole lives to God. In return, he gives us eternal life and hope that will never run out (the huge pitcher that Tiney brought me in the end!)
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possesions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
-Matthew 19:21
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
-John 4:13-14
Then he calle the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himsel and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to sae his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it."
-Mark 8:34-35
